Shari Lustrinelli, RT (R)MIS Volunteer Instructor Earns President's Award

Shari Lustrinelli, RT ( R ), a 1982 graduate of the College of Health Professions in Medical Imaging Sciences, was presented the President's Award for Outstanding Voluntary Faculty Service at the Fall 2005 Faculty Convocation. She was honored for her high standards and commitment to the clinical education of future radiologic technologists.

Since 1998,Lustrinelli has volunteered as a dedicated and tireless clinical educator for Upstate students at her place of employment, Community General Hospital. She has been a staff radiologic technologist there since 1990 performing procedures that include routine radiography, emergency imaging, surgical imaging, portable imaging and fluoroscopic studies.   The range of technology expertise includes computer axial tomography (CAT), nuclear medicine bone scans and mammography. Prior to this position, she worked in Massachusetts as a chief technologist, and then returned to Syracuse in 1988 to work at the Syracuse Community Health Center.

One of Lustrinelli's strengths, her colleagues say, is thinking "outside the box."   She takes the extra effort to bring helpful suggestions to faculty regarding student instruction, evaluation and remediation. She works tirelessly and accepts the challenge of diagnosis and remediation of student performance problems. She is committed to keeping students up-to-speed with practice requirements. Lustrinelli has extended her role to effectively showcase the medical imaging profession to prospective candidates for Upstate's program.
