Admissions Requirements

Doctor of Physical Therapy Program

Entry-Level | Transitional

Entry-Level Doctor of Physical Therapy Program

Admissions requirements include a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university including completion of 40 credits of prerequisite course work, first aid and CPR certification, GRE scores and volunteer or work experience in physical therapy.

We encourage a variety of physical therapy volunteer experiences. Admission is based on academic achievement and personal qualifications that are considered essential for the successful practice of physical therapy. Interviews are required for all qualified applicants.

Applicants with a minimum of 3.0 cumulative and prerequisite GPA’s are considered for interview and those with 3.3 cumulative and prerequisite GPA’s are given preference. Applications are reviewed on a modified rolling admissions basis from October through March, and March 15 is the application deadline. Applications received by February 1 are given priority.

NOTE: All science courses require laboratory experience.
Only grades of "C-" or higher are acceptable. Higher grades are required for a competitive admission application. All prerequisite courses must be completed by June 1 of the year of proposed entrance. All science requirements must include laboratories, and courses for science majors are recommended. Admission preference is given to applicants who have taken course sequences for science majors.

Transitional Doctor of Physical Therapy Program:

Admissions requirements include:

  • Completed Application
  • Current U.S. Physical Therapy license
  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA from the applicant's entry-level physical therapy program
  • Letter of recommendation
  • Portfolio (portfolio is waved for MPS and MPT Upstate Alumni unless elective credit is requested)
    The portfolio consists of a summary of the applicant's clinical, academic and professional experiences, highlighting competencies compatible with the expectations of the Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree. Applications are reviewed on a rolling admissions basis throughout the year.
