The poster is titled "Heart Rate, Blood Pressure and Respiratory Rate: Are PTs taking these measurements? - A Description of Practice" Poster was co-authored by Meryl Cohen, PT DPT from the University of Miami.

- Carol Recker-Hughes, MA, PT, has received a Dr. Nuala McGann Drescher Affirmative Action/Diversity award from United University Professions to pursue doctoral and scholarly work in the area of profes¬sional development for students. Recker-Hughes is assistant professor and director of Clinical Education for the Physical Therapy Education Program in the College of Health Professions. She also will present "Professional Development Needs of Clinical Instructors" at the World Physical Therapy 2007 conference June 2 to 6 in Vancouver. The poster was coauthored by Gary Brooks, PT, DrPH, CCS, SUNY Upstate associate professor of physical therapy education.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------ - Dale Avers, PT, DPT, PhD has received the Geriatrics Distinguished Educator Award by the Section on Geriatrics, APTA. This award recognizes excellence in teaching geriatrics. The award will be presented at the Combined Sections Meeting in Boston in February 2007.

-David A. Boyland, P.T., DPT, S.C.S., A.T.C. Dave Boyland recently received a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences. He also has accepted a position as the Director of Athletic Training and Rehabilitation for the USA Team Handball Women’s National Team.

-Susan D. Miller, P.T., D.P.T., M.S., O.C.S. Sue Miller is the recipient of the 2006 New York Physical Therapy Association (NYPTA) Outstanding Service To Chapter Award. The award is given to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the New York Chapter in promoting the organization and its goals. She was also elected as a Delegate to the 2007 American Physical Therapy Association House of Delegates, the highest decision making body of the Association. Additionally, she was recently appointed as Membership Chair of the NYPTA.

-Gary Brooks, P.T, Dr.P.H., C.C.S. Dr. Brooks was appointed to serve on the Continuing Education committee of the University at Albany School of Public Health. He is a co-author of a paper on Health Behavior Goals of Cardiac Patients After Hospitalization to be published in the July/August issue of the American Journal of Health Behavior.

-Nat Ordway, M.S., P.E. whose article “Reliability of Knee and Ankle Strength Measures in an Older Adult Population” with Department of Physical Therapy Education alums Gabriel Briggs and Nicole Hand, and Dr. Lori Ploutz-Synder of Syracuse University was published in the February 2006 Journal of Strength and Conditioning.

Dr. Brooks was recently appointed to the Editorial Board of the Cardiopulmonary Physical Therapy Journal, the official publication of the Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Section of the APTA. He also represented the Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Section of the APTA at the APTA House of Delegates in Boston in June.

Continuing Education Scholarship Grant for New PT Grads:
The New York Society for Continuing Education in Physical Therapy is offering a continuing education scholarship grant to new graduates of physical therapy programs who attend NYSCEPT accredited continuing education courses. NYSCEPT will award scholarships for 75% of the course registration fees up to a maximum of $300. No more than two scholarships will be awarded to any one individual.

The Online Review Guide for the National PT Examination is available from the Federation for State Boards for Physical Therapy (FSBPT). The 200 item sample exam is governed by a fee and cannot be downloaded. Costs are $70 for 15 days, $100 for 30 days. Checks are accepted by the Federation, no credit cards.
