MEDT 401 Clinical Practice Preparation

The course provides an introduction to a number of different aspects of clinical laboratory practice to prepare the student for the clinical rotations. Course content includes a discussion of professional and technical requirements for clinical laboratory science professionals and their role and responsibilities as a unit f the health care team, the duties and professional conduct expected of clinical laboratory professionals, clinical expectations, issues related to compliance, standard precautions, safety in the laboratory, laboratory mathematics and quality control, and various aspects of pre-, post-, and analytical phases of laboratory testing. In addition, the student will develop the fundamental skills required to procure and prepare blood specimens for testing.
