Bruce Searles, BS, C.C.P.
Associate Professor/Department Chairperson
Bruce Searles holds a BS degree in Health Science from Lock Haven
University and an A.A.S. degree in Extracorporeal Technology from the
SUNY Health Science Center. He has 14 years clinical and teaching
experience. Clinically, he is the ECMO Consultant for Crouse Hospital
and remains active in the operating room performing cardiopulmonary
bypass procedures. He is active in many professional organizations
including AmSECT, PPDC and AC-PE serving on and chairing national committees. He has and has
secured peer reviewed grants to fund his research and authored or
coauthored numerous peer reviewed articles and text book chapters.
He is an Associate Editor for the Journal of Extracorporeal Technology and regularly
speaks at regional, national and international professional
meetings. He was recognized for his professional efforts in 2006
when he received the the "Perfusionist of the Year Award" from the
American Society of Extracorporeal Technology.
Edward M. Darling, BS, CCP
Instructor/Clinical Coordinator
Mr. Darling has 13 years of diverse clinical experience encompassing all
patient populations. Additionally, he has earned a wealth of experience at
Duke University Medical Center as a clinical instructor for 4 accredited perfusion
education programs, including our own. He has previously served in the capacity
of Instructor at the Alton Ochsner perfusion program, and as ECMO Liaison
at Duke. Professionally, Mr. Darling has Chaired the AmSECT Research Grant
committee and served on the Pediatric Perfusion and Convention Planning committees.
He is also an Associate Editor for the Journal of Extracorporeal Technology
and an Active member of the American Academy of Cardiovascular Perfusion.

Beth G. Walsh, B.S., CT(ASCP)CMIAC
Interim Chairperson/Adjunct Assistant Professor/Educational Coordinator
Beth holds a B.S. degree in Cytotechnology and a B.A. in Anthropology. She has 11 years professional field/teaching experience in Cytotechnology. She serves as an assistant editor for the Bulletin of the American Society of Cytopathology. Her research interests include FNA cytology and cytology of liquid based preparations.
Lucinda A. Steele, BS, SCT(ASCP)CMIAC
Adjunct Assistant Professor
Cindy Steele holds a BS degree in cytotechnology from the SUNY Health Science
Center at Syracuse. She has 27 years professional field/teaching experience
in cytotechnology, and is a cytopathology supervisor. She has served as the chair of the Cytotechnologist Advisory Committee, an elected group of cytotechnologist members of the American Society of Cytopathology. Her research interests
and presentations concern Diff-Quik Stain, and atypical squamous cells in
pap smears.

David A. Clemente, M.S.Ed., R.T.(R) (MR)
Director
David Clemente holds a Master of Science degree in Education from SUNY Oswego,
a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from SUNY Cortland and an A.A.S. in
Medical Radiography from SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse. He became
ARRT certified in Radiography in 1993 and in MRI in 1998. David has eleven
years of clinical imaging and teaching experience. David teaches Radiographic/Topographic/
Sectional Anatomy, Imaging Pathology, Advanced Imaging Procedures in MRI and
coordinates MRI clinical rotations.
Patricia J. Duffy, M.P.S., R.T.(R) (CT)
Assistant Professor/Clinical Coordinator
Patricia Duffy holds a Master of Professional Studies in Health Service Administration from the Graduate School of Management and Urban Professions from the New School University (formerly New School for Social Research), a Bachelor of Science in Educational Studies from SUNY Empire State College and an Associate in Applied Science in Radiologic Technology from SUNY Upstate Medical University. She has 36 years professional experience with the last 31 years at Upstate Medical University in a faculty/administrative position. In 1999, Patricia became nationally certified in Computed Tomography. Patricia teaches all Radiographic Positioning Principles and Laboratory courses in the program. As Clinical Coordinator for the program, she is responsible for all aspects of radiography clinical education. She also facilitates the Contemporary Issues in Medical Imaging and Senior Project courses.
Kenneth D. Galbraith, M.S., RDMS, RVT, R.T. (R)
Instructor
Ken Galbraith holds a Master of Science degree in teaching from LeMoyne College, a B.S. in Medical Imaging from Thomas Jefferson University, and an A.A.S. degree in Medical Radiography from SUNY Upstate Medical University. He is registered with the ARDMS in Physics and Instrumentation, Abominal sonography, OB/Gyn sonography, Neurosonography, Vascular physics, and Vascular technology. He worked as a diagnostic medical sonographer for nineteen years before joining the Upstate faculty. Ken has been teaching ultrasound for two years. He teaches Sectional Anatomy along with all ultrasound courses. Ken is also the clinical coordinator for the DMS program.
Kerry A. Greene-Donnelly, M.B.A., R.T. (R) (M) (CT) (QM)
Instructor
Kerry Greene holds a Master of Business Administration degree from SUNY Oswego,
a Bachelor of Professional Studies degree in Health Service Management from
SUNY Institute of Technology at Utica/Rome and an A.A.S degree in Medical
Radiography from SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse. She has eight
years of professional experience and three years of teaching experience. Kerry
teaches fundamentals of imaging, computed tomography, quality management,
management principles, co teaches imaging in radiation oncology and coordinates
computed tomography rotations. Kerry became nationally certified in the following
modalities: Radiography (1995), Mammography (1997), Computed Tomography (1999),
and Quality Management (2002).

Susan S. Graham, MS, MT(ASCP),SH
Associate Professor/Department Chair
Susan Graham holds a M.S. Degree in Natural Science from SUNY at Buffalo,
Roswell Park Division, and a BS Degree in Medical Technology from the Rochester
Institute of Technology. She teaches hematology and clinical hematology in
the medical technology program. She has 25 years of professional field/teaching
experience. Her research interest lies primarily in the field of coagulation,
specifically in the study of platelets and their interaction with von Willebrand
factor.
Linda E. Miller, Ph.D., I(ASCP)SI
Professor/Program Director for Medical Biotechnology
Linda Miller holds a Ph.D. degree in immunology from the SUNY Upstate Medical
Center and a BS degree in biology. She teaches immunology and human genetics
for the medical technology program. She has over 20 years professional field/teaching
experience. She received the President's Award for Excellence in Teaching
in 1998. Her research interests include the development of educational
materials in clinical laboratory immunology. She has co-authored the
text, Manual of Laboratory Immunology, and has published a number
of continuing education and basic research articles in the field.
Robert L. Sunheimer, MS MT(ASCP)SC, SLS

Associate Professor
Robert Sunheimer holds a M.S. degree in medical technology (Clinical Chemistry specialty) from the SUNY Health Science Center at Syracuse, and BS and A.A.S. degrees in medical technology. He teaches laboratory instrumentation and clinical chemistry in the Medical Technology Program. He has 33 years professional field/teaching experience. He has co-authored several research articles, two chapters in "Henry’s Clinical Diagnosis and Management by Laboratory Methods" edited by McPherson and Pincus and written articles for ASCP, ADVANCE for Medical Laboratory Professionals. He is also the recipient of the ASCP Regional Associate Award (2006) and CLMA Laboratorian of the year (2006).
James L. Vossler, MS, MT(ASCP)SM, CLS[NCAMLP]
Assistant Professor
James Vossler holds a M.S. degree in Medical Technology from the SUNY Health
Science Center at Syracuse. He teaches medical mycology, medical microbiology,
and clinical microbiology. He has 16 years professional field/teaching experience
and his research interest involves clinical microbiology diagnosis by molecular
methods.

Susan D. Miller, P.T., D.P.T., M.S., O.C.S.
Assistant Professor/Chairperson
Sue Miller earned a Doctorate in Physical Therapy from MGH Institute of Health Professions in January 2004. Additionally, she holds a M.S. degree from Cornell University, a physical therapy degree from SUNY at Buffalo and is a Board Certified Clinical Specialist in Orthopedics. She teaches movement analysis, imaging and courses in orthopedic evaluation and interventions. She has over 30 years of clinical practice and teaching. Her research interests are in the areas of professionalism and orthopedics. Sue Miller is a delegate to the American Physical Therapy Association House of Delegates, and is the current Membership Chair of the New York Physical Therapy Association (NYPTA) as well as immediate past President of NYPTA. She is the recipient of the NYPTA 2006 Outstanding Service to Chapter Award.
Dale Avers, P.T., D.P.T., Ph.D.
Assistant Professor
Dale Avers received her BS degree in Physical Therapy and Master's in Education
from the University of Kentucky. She earned her PhD in Instructional Systems
Technology from Indiana University. Dale received her DPT from Rocky Mountain
University of Health Professions. She has been a clinician for most of the
past 25 years, primarily in geriatrics and orthopaedics. She has been a president
of the Section on Geriatrics, APTA. Dale has taught for the past 15 years
in several entry-level and post-professional academic programs and provides
many continuing education courses in geriatrics and evidence-based practice.
Her research interests involve both qualitative and quantitative methods
in the areas of education and geriatric exercise. Dale is the Director
of the Transitional Doctor of Physical Therapy (T-DPT) program.
David A. Boyland, P.T., DPT, S.C.S., A.T.C.
Assistant Professor, Part-time
Dave Boyland received a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences in the Fall of 2006. He also holds a M.S. degree from Eastern Illinois University and BS degrees in physical therapy from SUNY Health Science Center at Syracuse (now SUNY Upstate Medical University) and physical education from Canisius College. He is a Board Certified Clinical Specialist in Sports Physical Therapy with over 15 years clinical/teaching experience in physical therapy and over 25 years in athletic training. He teaches in the areas of movement analysis of the extremities and spine, therapeutic interventions, sports physical therapy, and wellness. He is the Director of Athletic Training and Rehabilitation for the USA Team Handball Women’s National Team. His research interests are in the area of orthopedics and wellness.
Gary Brooks, P.T., Dr.P.H., C.C.S.
Associate Professor
Gary Brooks received a BA from Hobart College, a MS in Physical Therapy
from Boston University, and a DrPH, concentrating in Epidemiology, from
the University at Albany – State University of New York. A Board Certified
Clinical Specialist in Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Physical Therapy, Dr.
Brooks is currently Vice President of the Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Section
of the APTA. He teaches research methods
and evidence-based practice, and assists in cardiovascular and pulmonary
PT. Research interests include assessing practice behaviors in cardiovascular
and pulmonary physical therapy and determining the impact of physician communication
on processes and outcomes of physical therapy care.
Janet A. Coy, P.T., M.A.
Associate Professor
Janet Coy holds a M.A. degree from Syracuse University, and a certificate
in gerontology. She teaches neuroscience, adult neurological evaluation
and intervention, gerontology and ethics. She has 28 years professional
clinical/teaching experience and is a Certified Feldenkrais practitioner.
Her research interests include the Feldenkrais Method and
medical ethics.
Jill Dungey, P.T., D.P.T., M.S., G.C.S.
Clinical Assistant Professor, Assistant Academic Coordinator of Clinical Education
Jill Dungey holds a M.S. degree in education from Syracuse University and
a B.S. in physical therapy from Quimipiac College, Connecticut. She is a
board certified clinical specialist in geriatrics. She has 28 years of clinical
practice primarily in the rehab setting; but also in the home care, SNF
and acute care settings. She is the assistant Academic Coordinator and teaches
the Foundations Elements of Physical Therapy Practice and Integumentary
Management and Geriatics. She is presently enrolled in a TDPT program. Her
research interests are in education and gerontology for PT's.
Pamela R. Gramet, P.T., Ph.D.
Associate Professor
Pamela Gramet holds a Ph.D. degree from Syracuse University, a M.S. degree
from SUNY Stony Brook and a BS degree in physical therapy from Ithaca College.
She teaches psychosocial
aspects of patient care and teaching and learning in physical therapy. She
has 28 years of teaching experience. Her research interests include the
impact of chronic illness on the family and various aspects of physical therapy
education. She was a member of the APTA task force that developed the national
Clinical Performance Instruments (CPI) for assessment of student clinical
performance.
Moshe Marko, P.T., M.H.S.
Clinical Assistant Professor
Moshe Marko joined the faculty at Upstate Medical University in October
0f 2004. He holds
a MHS from Washington University College, St. Louis, MO, and a BPT from Tel-Aviv
University, Tel-Aviv, Israel. He is in the process of completing his Ph.D.
degree from the Exercise Science Department at Syracuse University, Syracuse,
NY. He has 14 years of teaching and professional field experience. His areas
of interest include motion analysis, muscle imbalance, gait, electrotherapy,
and wellness and prevention.
Kevin Neville, P.T., M.S., C.C.S.
Clinical Assistant Professor
Kevin Neville holds an MS degree in physical therapy from Columbia University
and a BS degree in Biology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
He has 15 years of experience in teaching and clinical practice. He
is a Board Certified Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Clinical Specialist. He
teaches in Bioscience, Differential Diagnosis, Cardiovascular and Pulmonary
Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Pharmacology. His research interests
include exercise prescription in acute care and functional assessment in
individuals with pulmonary disease and heart failure.
Nat Ordway, MS, P.E.
Adjunct Assistant Professor
Nat Ordway holds a BS in Biomedical Engineering from Boston University and
a M.S. in Bioengineering from Clemson University. He is involved in
research and data analysis in the Children's Miracle Network Motion Analysis
Laboratory. He is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of
Orthopedic Surgery.
Carol Recker-Hughes, P.T., M.A.
Assistant Professor, Director of Clinical Education
- Carol Recker-Hughes holds a Master's degree in Kinesiology from New York
University, a BS in physical therapy from SUNY Upstate and she is currently
a doctoral student in the Teaching and Curriculum program at Syracuse University.
She has 18 years clinical experience in acute, rehabilitation, out-patient
and home care settings. Carol is the Director of the Clinical
Education Program and teaches in Foundations of Patient/Client Management
and in Patient/Client Management: Systemic Disorders. Her research interests
include authentic learning and assessment methods to promote professional
development for clinical faculty and PT students.

Joan E. O'Brien, MS Ed., R.T.(T)
Associate Professor/Department Chairperson/Associate Dean
Joan O'Brien holds a M.S. degree in education from SUNY Oswego, and is a
registered radiation therapy technologist. She has over three decades of professional
and teaching experience. She chairs and teaches in the radiation therapy department.
Her research interests include cancer prevention and early detection.
Mary Z. Hare, MS Ed., C.M.D., R.T.(T) (CT)
Assistant Professor/Clinical Education Coordinator
Mary Hare holds a M.S. degree in education from SUNY Oswego, is a board
certified medical dosimetrist, and is a registered radiation therapy technologist.
She has over 20 years of professional and teaching experience. She teaches
radiation therapy, dosimetry, and coordinates the clinical education component.
Her research interest is in the clinical application of radiation for therapeutic
use.

Joseph G. Sorbello, M.S.Ed., RT, RRT

Joseph Sorbello holds a M.S.Ed. in education from SUNY Cortland, and a BS
degree in respiratory therapy from the SUNY Upstate Medical University. He
served two years as the Assistant Dean of the College of Health Professions
and is a Past President of the following organizations: New York State Society
for Respiratory Care (NYSSRC), CNY Chapter of the NYSSRC, and the American
Lung Association of Central New York. He has 26 years in professional practice
and as faculty in clinical, classroom and clinical laboratory settings. Courses
taught, co-taught and/or facilitated are: Ventilatory Support: Physiologic
and Clinical Applications, Cardiorespiratory Home Care and Rehabilitation,
Respiratory Care for the Medical-Surgical Patient: A Problem-Based Learning
Approach, Respiratory Health Promotion/Disease Prevention, Cardiopulmonary
Physiology, Cardiopulmonary Diagnostics and various clinical rotations. He
has authored or co-authored many medical and educational articles in various
national journals. Research interests include critical thinking/problem-based
learning, ventilator-induced lung injury and applied physiology.
Nancy K. Feocco, BS, RT, RRT-NPS, AE-C

Nancy Feocco holds a BS degree in Cardiorespiratory Sciences and an A.A.S.
degree in Respiratory Care. She has over 21 years of experience as a respiratory
care practitioner. Currently, she is completing her Master's Degree work in
Vocational Technical Education at Oswego State College. Additionally, Nancy
has extensive experience as a full-time and part-time faculty member at two
academic institutions. She is a neonatal pediatric specialist and teaches
this specialty area in both the classroom and hospital settings. She is a
Basic Life Support Instructor, Neontal Resuscitation Instructor and a Pediatric
Advanced Life Support (PALS) Instructor. Her other areas of special professional
interest are home care and respiratory therapy consultation. She is on several
committees for the NYSSRC-CNYC.
Robert R. Fluck, Jr., MS, RT, RRT

Robert Fluck holds a M.S. degree in education from Syracuse University,
a BS degree in biology from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and a certificate
of completion from the (unfortunately now defunct) NYU-B ellevue Respiratory
Therapy Program. He presently teaches Physical Principles of Respiratory Care,
the Physiology of Acid-Base Balance, and Cardiopulmonary Instrumentation.
He previously taught Respiratory Physiology and Cardiovascular Physiology,
the courses which were combined to create the present Cardiopulmonary Physiology
I and II. He was Director of Clinical Education for the Department of Respiratory
Therapy Education from 1984 to 2001. In concert with one of the faculty from
Health Sciences and Human Studies, he guides senior cardiorespiratory sciences
students who are doing research. He is a course director for Advanced Cardiac
Life Support and an Instructor Trainer for Basic Life Support (CPR). Until
recently, he was a paramedic (EMT-P) with a local volunteer ambulance corps,
having served at various levels of Emergency Medical Technician for 35 years.
He has over 30 years professional and teaching experience. His research interests
include emergency airway management and resuscitation. He is a Past President
of the New York State Society for Respiratory Care, past Delegate to the House
of Delegates of the American Association for Respiratory Care, and Past Speaker
of the House of Delegates.
Carl P. Wiezalis, MS, RT, RRT

Carl Wiezalis holds an MS degree from Syracuse University and a BS degree
in zoology from the University of Hartford in Connecticut. He began his professional
career in respiratory therapy in Connecticut in 1964 and later taught biological
and physical sciences prior to his appointment to a professorship here in
1969. Mr. Wiezalis was Chairman of the Department of Cardiorespiratory Sciences
from 1973 to 2001. His teaching responsibilities over the years include Oxygen
and Aerosol Therapy, Cardiovascular Physiology, Departmental and Personnel
Administration, Health Promotion /Disease Prevention, Practica in Administration
and Teaching, and Pathology. His research interests include future planning
for health and medical education, distance learning, technology in health
care and education, health promotion/ disease prevention, accreditation of
educational programs and institutions, geriatrics and gerontology, international
education, and professional leadership. He has held many leadership offices
within the SUNY System including Faculty Senator, Chairperson of the Faculty
Organization, and Vice President of the SUNY Faculty Senate Statewide. Additionally,
Mr. Wiezalis is a recipient of many University Awards including the President's
Award for the Advancement of Affirmative Action and the President's Award
for Excellence in Faculty Service. He is a Past President of the State Society
for Respiratory care, a Past Delegate to the House of Delegates representing
New York State, and the 2001 President of the national professional society,
the American Association for Respiratory Care. He has been selected for several
professional society awards including the Golden Tree of Life Award (NYS),
the Sam Runyon Award (NYS), and Educator of the Year Award by the American
Association for Respiratory Care. Mr. Wiezalis is a member of the Board of
Directors of the National Emphysema COPD Association and functions as International
Affairs Liaison with this organization.

David Wolfe holds a B.S. degree in Respiratory Care and a M.S. degree in
Health Education. He has over ten years experience as a respiratory care practitioner
with a special professional interest in critical care and sleep medicine.
He teaches in the classroom, lab and in the clinical setting. His research
interests are sleep medicine and ventilator induced lung injury. He is an
adjunct faculty member at Mohawk Valley Community College and the treasurer
for the NYSSRC-CNYC.
Sheila A. Young, MS, RT, RRT

Sheila Young holds a M.S. degree in Health Education from SUNY Cortland,
and BS & AAS degrees in Respiratory Therapy. She has over 20 years professional
field/teaching experience. She has taught various classroom courses but focuses
on the Clinical Laboratory and teaching/coordinating clinical education. She
instructs in the Adult Intensive Care Unit with emphasis on hemodynamic monitoring
and the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. She helps provide courses in Adult
Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Life Support, Basic Life Support, and Neonatal
Resuscitation. Her interests are in critical care and emergency medicine.
She has been on the BOD for the New York State Society for Respiratory Care
and remains active in the Central New York Chapter. She authored an in-service
program entitled, "Congestive Heart Failure: A Review and Update".
