Syracuse and Central New York
Syracuse offers an enviable combination of outstanding quality of life and affordable living. In 2014, the Simple Dollar website named Syracuse the most affordable mid-size city in the country (of more than 150 cities with population of 50,000 to 150,000). You can drive from downtown and our campus, and be in the countryside in less than 10 minutes.
Our university puts you in the heart of New York’s fourth-largest city. The Upstate campus is part of Syracuse’s vibrant University Hill area that includes Syracuse University and SUNY Environmental Science and Forestry, as well as our own Upstate University Hospital and Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital, and two other hospitals within walking distance.
Central New York has long enjoyed a reputation as a comfortable place to live, with high-performing schools, cultural offerings and sporting events, a wealth of beautiful parks, lakes and four-season recreational opportunities—and short commutes. Syracuse is surrounded by the scenic Finger Lakes region, Adirondack Mountains , and the Thousand Islands , and is within a half-day drive of nearly every major eastern metropolitan area including NYC, Boston, Philadelphia and Toronto. Our four seasons allow for spectacular springs, endless summer pursuits, colorful autumns and abundant winter recreation.
