Respiratory Care Scholarships
Robert James Reilly Scholarship
-
Robert James Reilly was a 1996 graduate of the Bachelor of Science Degree Program in Respiratory Care in the Department of Respiratory Therapy Education at Upstate Medical University. Tragically, Robert died unexpectedly from complications of cardiac disease.
The Reilly family has established a scholarship endowment in Robert's name to assist an advancing student engaged in the study of Respiratory Care within our department. This scholarship is given to a second year student enrolled in the department's Bachelor of Science Degree Program in Respiratory Care who demonstrates solid academic achievement and need for financial assistance.

Margaret Anne Richards Scholarship
- Margaret Anne Richards, MS, RRT was a 1973 graduate of our Respiratory Care Program and practiced as a Registered Therapist until her untimely death in 1995.
To commemorate her professional career and to support and promote the education of other students pursuing education and careers in Respiratory Care, the Richards family has established a scholarship endowment program in her name. Preference is given to graduates and residents of Oswego County. Two scholarships in the amount of $2,500 each are offered for two consecutive years to students accepted for study in our department's Bachelor of Science Degree Program in Respiratory Care and who continue to progress through the two year program as scheduled. Students interested in being evaluated for this scholarship must apply to the Department of Respiratory Therapy Education and be accepted for study prior to scholarship consideration.

- Several area hospitals offer scholarships in return for an after graduation

General Alumni Scholarship
- The Upstate Medical University Health Professions Alumni Association sponsors more than 20 annual student scholarships to provide financial aid to students of the College of Health Professions based on a combination of financial need, academic standing, leadership potential, motivation and commitment to the profession.

Ken George Scholarship Fund
- Created in 1998 by Ken George, a retired faculty member of the Department of Medical Imaging. The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarships to students in the SUNY Upstate Medical University College of Health Professions. To apply, use the general application and follow the procedures indicated.

American Respiratory Care Foundation
- The Morton B. Duggan, Jr. Memorial Award
The ARCF will award $1,000 in memory of Morton B. Duggan, Jr. to an outstanding candidate currently enrolled in an accredited respiratory care training program. Preference will be given to students from Georgia and South Carolina.
- The Jimmy A. Young Memorial Award
In memory of Jimmy A. Young, past president of the AARC, the ARCF will award $1,000 to a student enrolled in an accredited respiratory care education program. Preference will be given to students of minority origin.
- The NBRC/AMP William W. Burgin, Jr., MD Award
The ARCF and the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC), together with its wholly owned subsidiary, Applied Measurement Professionals, Inc. (AMP), will award $2,500 to a second year student enrolled in an accredited respiratory therapy program leading to an Associate Degree.
- The NBRC/AMP Robert M. Lawrence, MD Award
The ARCF and NBRC/AMP will award $2,500 to a third or fourth year student enrolled in an accredited Baccalaureate respiratory therapy program.
- The NBRC/AMP Gareth B. Gish Postgraduate Award
The ARCF and NBRC/AMP will award $1,500 to a respiratory therapist who has been accepted into an advanced degree program of a fully accredited school. Candidates must possess a Baccalaureate degree with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.
- The William F. Miller, MD Postgraduate Award
The ARCF will award $1,500 to a respiratory therapist who has been accepted into an advanced degree program of a fully accredited school. Candidate must possess a Baccalaureate degree with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.
