Programs and More About the College
The College of Health Professions was formed in 1971. However, programs in the Health Professions have been in existence on this campus since 1956. College of Health Professions' students can choose from seven exciting health care fields. All of the degree programs are upper division, meaning students enroll for their junior and senior years of college. Two offer master's degrees.
The following programs are currently offered in the College
Each curriculum includes courses in professional subject areas, liberal arts and sciences as well as a clinical experience component. The College has a strong Arts and Sciences Department which contributes to a broadly based education for students in health sciences.
The College of Health Professions annually admits approximately 110 students into its programs. Retention rates average approximately 90 percent for the College. There are 32 full-time and 8 part-time faculty. In addition, there are more than 240 clinical and adjunct faculty who contribute to the college's educational programs.
The offices of the dean and associate dean, the Division of Arts and Sciences, and all of the programs, with the exception of Medical Technology, are housed in Silverman Hall. Medical Technology has office and laboratory space in Weiskotten Hall.
Silverman Hall has a microcomputer laboratory, a study skills tutoring laboratory, classrooms, conference rooms and teaching laboratories for Cytotechnology, Medical Imaging (Medical Radiography), Physical Therapy, Radiation Therapy, and Respiratory Care. The College also uses selected classroom/laboratory space in Weiskotten Hall as well as space which is dedicated for Physical Therapy, Medical Technology, Chemistry and Anatomy.
Clinical teaching sites in University Hospital are also used by the College. The use of University Hospital, part of the Upstate Medical University, campus is a major strength of all curricula. It affords the opportunity to use the unique environment of a tertiary health care center for clinical teaching. Thus, the college is able to offer an exceptional educational experience for students. In addition, most programs also use off-campus clinical affiliates (see individual programs).
The setting and structure of the College of Health Professions provide an opportunity for students in the various health professions to study together and to learn to practice together as future members of the health care delivery team. Present and anticipated demands for health care in our nation create a special need for well-qualified members of each discipline to function effectively together.
Accreditation & Faculty
All professional programs are fully accredited by the appropriate nationally recognized body such as:

Graduates are eligible to apply to sit for licensure and/or certification immediately upon graduation. The college's graduates have excellent records on these examinations. Faculty hold the appropriate professional credentials and graduate degrees and are current in their disciplines. In addition, many faculty are active and recognized leaders in their discipline's accreditation agencies, professional organizations, and certification/licensure boards.
Philosophy
We, the faculty of the College of Health Professions, believe that opportunities must be provided to enable students to acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to fulfill emerging and changing personal, professional and societal roles.
We believe that the educational process extends beyond the curriculum to include the various life experiences of the student. This process helps the student to develop an appreciation of the obligations that come with rights and freedoms, a sense of responsibility to society and an awareness of the duties of a citizen, a confidence in individual abilities and an understanding of the limitations of those abilities, a perception of personal values and an appreciation of the values of others, a realization of the importance of knowledge and a commitment to life-long learning.
We believe that optimal health care is provided through the coordinated efforts of people from many disciplines. We are dedicated to preparing competent professionals who treat patients, prevent illness and promote health through their unique and cooperative contributions to health care.
We believe that students should become all they are capable of being.
