The Future of Cardiology
The Heart Center at SUNY Upstate Medical University is envisioned as a state-of-the-art facility that integrates the various cardiac diagnostic services in one location. Specific objectives include the following:
- Consolidate the invasive and non-invasive modalities of cardiac diagnostic testing.
- Provide a facility that allows and encourages the growth of the service, increasing the number of practitioners and welcoming physicians from the outside.
- Provide a welcoming environment for patients and families, with convenient patient access.
- Upgrade building infrastructure as needed to be consistent with contemporary standards of care and support anticipated developments in technology.
- Provide the opportunity for improved patient education.
From a technology perspective, The Heart Center will include:
- A state-of-the-art flat/digital detector based single plane Cardiac Cath Lab to replace an existing analogy system at the end of its useful life.
- An Endovascular Imaging Suite for both peripheral and hybrid Vascular and Cardiac Procedures.
- The creation of a second "state-of-the art" EP Lab compatible with the Stereotaxis NIOBE Magnetic Navigation System.
- A Stereotaxis NIOBE Magnetic Navigation System.
- Integrated Cardiology based data management systems.
- An 8-bed recovery area with a state-of-the-art cardiac monitoring system.
- Expanded Echocardiography capabilities inclusive of 3D & 4D imaging as well as reconstruction capabilities.
- Associated with the Heart Center Project will be Expanded Cardiac CT and MR imaging capability.
