Blood Disorders

The Comprehensive Pediatric Hemophilia Center is a federally funded program that cares for children with a variety of bleeding disorders. The focus is on management of active bleeding and long term strategies that will decrease bleeding episodes and maintain normal function.

Education is a primary component of each child's care. Teaching the family how to recognize problems and choose an appropriate intervention is extremely important. The children are educated to understand their disorder and, as they grow older, to recognize problems and how to treat their bleeding episodes so they can become independent as they enter adulthood.

The center is a member of the American Thrombosis and Hemostasis Network that collects data and encourages appropriate research to benefit patients with bleeding and clotting disorders.
