To live from day to day
with what each day will bring
won't make pain go away.
It will not do a thing
For grief that chills the bone
or tremors of distress
that case the heart in stone.
Yet one can murmur, yes .

Angels and saints are promising release,
arms and eyes heavenward. The wind is cold;
the sky is dark. This argument is old,
but either way, there's silence here, and peace.
