Gregory L. Eastwood, MD
Dr. Eastwood is a former president of SUNY Upstate Medical University (1993-2006) and now serves on the Upstate Foundation Board of Directors. He also serves on the Board of Trustees of Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) and was Interim President of CWRU from June 1, 2006 until July 1, 2007, after which he became the Inamori Ethics Professor and Director of the Inamori International Center for Ethics and Excellence at CWRU until his return to SUNY Upstate in September 2008. He has been active in the Association of Academic Health Centers, the Association of American Medical Colleges, the Associated Medical Schools of New York, the American Gastroenterological Association, the Subspecialty Board on Gastroenterology of the American Board of Internal Medicine, and other national and regional organizations. Dr. Eastwood teaches in the Ethical, Legal and Social Issues in Medicine (ELSIM), and the Bioethics at the Bedside course in the College of Medicine at SUNY Upstate. He also teaches a course on leadership in the Consortium for Culture and Medicine (CCM). He is a member of the University Hospital Ethics Committee. Dr. Eastwood's current scholarly interests include the study of ethical leadership in all disciplines, ethics of complex organizations, and bioethics. His past clinical research was in gastrointestinal epithelial renewal, mechanisms of mucosal injury and protection, and peptic ulcer disease.
