The purpose of this elective is to provide an educational forum for students who are interested in global health. The discussion group is designed to complement and suppplement the Keating lecture series on global health. Each discussion will focus on a topic of interest, based on ideas from the students and the instructor. Topics might include: the black market in organs, care for refugees and immigrants, responses to infectious diseases, health disparities between and within countries, duties to assist health and human rights, war and health, health and the natural environment, malnutrition and over-nutrition, health care systems in other countries, experiences working abroad, and opportunities to get involved. Upon completing this elective, students will be able to describe the health prospects of populations, explain important ethical issues in global health, formulate their own views in a more careful way, and plan further study and engagement in global health.
