NOTICE
TO PROFESSIONALS AND STUDENTS IN THE FIELD OF ALCOHOLISM:
We at the Syracuse Al-Anon Service Center are aware
that many nursing students, social work majors, and students studying
for their CAC are looking to attend local Al-Anon meetings as a requirement
for their course work.
If you are attending a local Al-Anon meeting for
this purpose as students, you are required to identify yourselves as such
and ask the groups you are attending for permission to sit in and to take
notes, if you are required to so for your classwork. Most local groups
would normally agree to such requests.
In addition, five local groups regularly hold what
are called "Open Meetings", that is that at certain times they are open
to any person who is interested in learning about Al-Anon, not just prospective
members who are family and friends of alcoholics. All other local meetings
are considered closed. Closed meetings are for all Al-Anon members, anyone
whose personal life is or has been deeply affected by close contact with
a problem drinker. Open meetings may be attended by anyone interested
in Al-Anon. These local Open meetings are listed here for your convenience:

AL-ANON CAN HELP YOU:
In addition, the Al-Anon Service Center may be
able to provide students in the field free copies of basic Al-Anon Conference
Approved Literature that they might find helpful as well. The Service
center also maintains a list of local Al-Anon and Alateen members who
are willing to speak with members of the professional community about
the Al-Anon program.
It is hoped that by cooperating with the Professional
Alcoholism Community in a manner reflecting our Al-Anon Public Information
policy of "Attraction, Rather than Promotion" , that the community can
be informed about the fellowship and come to understand the help that
Al-Anon and Alateen can provide, and that through this cooperation, our
groups will attract many who need the Al-Anon program of recovery.
