IT MORE THAN JUST MEETINGS!

DISTRICT 18, DAY OF SHARING APRIL 3, 2004

Topics of Discussion and Thoughts of Participants!

Sponsorship!

  • Everyone needs a sponsor
  • Must have it to give it away
  • Share Positive Stuff
  • Need to give myself 6 months to work on this and no more
  • It's THEIR Recovery- Do not call unless you know of a Crisis Situation- They need to work with you.

Literature

  • Literature order is places in VA- takes 3-4 weeks to deliver
  • It used to take 3-4 weeks to get an ODAT now we can get it at Service center
  • Pamphlets, Forms, and bookmarks Easier to read, gets us through the moment
  • CAL- Conference Approved Literature should be the only thing read in meetings
  • Northern Highlights- great way to see what is going on other parts of New York and helps us to be informed
  • Great to keep the focus, the same focus as the meetings
  • Has 3 Daily readers, reads 3 a day, great way to start the day
  • Helps us to define what we are feeling and what we think about situations
  • Always appropriate to what I need for the day
  • Available to read when working at Service center
  • Can fit in a your purse or fit in you suitcase when traveling
  • Available in many language, Order forms are available
  • Forum/ Literature is carries the message of Hope, we are not alone
  • Use African- American and Native American pieces to attract newcomers
  • Can be left in Laundromats, Doctor's Offices and can be given out to professionals at little cost

Phone

  • Can provide support we can't get at home, from loved ones or co-workers
  • Great tool when you can't get to meetings
  • If it';s hard start slow 1-2 call a week (say "your just practicing")
  • Helps us to sort out our thinking
  • It's good for the person who is receiving the call
  • Helps us to feel connected
  • Be careful about putting your name on phone list
  • Comforting to know I can call even when I am having a "Good Day"
  • Why we don't use it- we don't want to bother people, don't have privacy; we try to figure the problem out before we call so that we can tell the people what we did right.

Service

Enjoyed Service ever since I came into the program
Service= God Given Talents= Commitment
Keeps me busy, gives me a reason to go out to meetings when I don't want to go
Service helps her group to be a group, remember a group without a GR or a Contact is not a Group
Service gives us opportunity to meet more people can to know more about people
Driving other's to District Meetings, Conventions, and Days of Sharing helps her to get to event that she would not have attended otherwise Service at Service center is an eye-opener at to how people still do not know about the Disease of Alcoholism and the ripple effects of the Disease
One of the perks is a chance to grow ant to read literature
A chance to have a mini-meeting
Service helps us to check our motives
